Lancaster General Health is a 623-licensed bed non-profit health system in Lancaster, Pa., and includes Lancaster General Hospital and Women and Babies Hospital. Outpatient services are provided at the Downtown and Suburban Outpatient Pavilions, Outpatient Centers, and Express and Urgent Care locations throughout the region. Pennsylvania College of Health Sciences is a private, four-year college offering associate and baccalaureate programs. Thomas Beeman, Ph.D., FACHE, has more than 35 years of experience in the health care field and is responsible for the leadership of the Lancaster General Health system. Prior to joining Lancaster General Health, he served at Saint Thomas Health Services as its president and chief executive officer, and the senior vice president for hospital operations and executive director of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia, a Fellow of the American College of Health Care Executives and a member of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.
A Rear Admiral in the United States Navy Reserve, he served as deputy commander for the National Intrepid Center of Excellence, National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, a facility dedicated to treating military personnel and veterans suffering from traumatic brain injuries. He holds his Ph.D. from Vanderbilt University, where he has taught system theory. He holds a master’s degree in hospital administration from Widener University, as well as a master’s degree in health education and a bachelor’s degree in community health studies from St. Joseph’s University. He is the author of Leading from Within and has published myriad academic articles.
