Reading Health System, based in Berks County, Pa., is a regional non-profit health care system that consists of four major gateways: Reading Hospital, a 735-bed acute care hospital; Reading Health Rehabilitation Hospital, which includes a 50-bed skilled nursing unit; Reading Health Physician Partners; and Reading Health Medical Services. Combined, there are 7,300 team members and 1,000 physicians and providers across 63 locations within the network. Clint Matthews is president and chief executive officer of Reading Health System. Since taking on this role in June 2010, Mr. Matthews has overseen the implementation of a system-wide electronic medical records implementation, a new system branding and advertising campaign and the oversight of a Clinically Integrated Physician Network (CLIO), as well as the approval and start of construction for $354 million in perioperative services and an inpatient bed tower.
Previously as a managing director with FTI Healthcare, Mr. Matthews was responsible for the assessment of and/or improvements for FTI Healthcare clients nationwide, with expertise in leading executive management teams, performance improvement, organizational redesign, operations management and strategic planning. With a focus on organizational and leadership development, as well as financial, operational and quality improvement, Mr. Matthews assisted health systems and hospitals with financial recovery, improvements in quality outcomes, physician alignment, and patient satisfaction.
Prior to joining FTI, Mr. Matthews successfully led the development and improvement of several acute care and specifically hospital facilities of various sizes and types, including for-profit, not-for-profit and public governmental facilities. He has been successful in different types of health care markets, including urban and suburban health care environments. He has worked in all aspects of hospital operations and diversified health care ventures. He has planned, developed and initiated numerous tertiary and quaternary programs and facilities. His facilities have received top 50 and 100 awards in numerous clinical areas, as well as overall distinguished awards in clinical excellence.
Mr. Matthews earned a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center and a Master of Science degree in healthcare administration from Texas Women’s University. He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served on the board or committees of several state hospital associations.
